Okay so far doesn't it look great?
I know that this looks like a smoothie, but my goal here was to make a raw soup.
Here is what's in the blender thus far:
- Red Cabbage
- 1 small Yellow Onion
- 4 Cloves of Garlic
- 2 Turnips
- 8 oz veggie stock
Then I added the kale - and I LOVE kale. So then the beautiful mixture turned a very putrid greenish/brown.
I figured that it wasn't a big deal I would just eat it even though it looked really undesirable. All I can say is I tried. I ate a small bowl, but that was all I could take. I had to pour the rest into our composer...
I'm happy to report that although this was a disaster - now I know that blending meals is quite different from regular cooking. It will just be a matter of time before I figure it out and I won't have to mess with recipes and I can make it up as I go along.
In the mean time anyone else have a kitchen disaster to share?
It was pretty!
ReplyDeleteI thought so - I didn't even bother to take a picture of the end result. It would turn anyone off of a smoothie or soup. :)
ReplyDeleteLol, true, it was pretty. :)
ReplyDeleteUgh, I've had my share of disasters. For a long time I just couldn't make meringue to work for me. At all.
Sarah - thanks for sharing in the pain. :) Coming from someone I know hangs out in the kitchen that means a lot. I'll have you know I have had many shredded coconut successes. So much so that I need to purchase more shredded coconut. It is my favorite!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend.
How funny! I had a similar moment a week or so ago trying to make dinner for the family. To say it bombed would be putting it mildly.
ReplyDeleteHere's that story including a video of what my 21-month-old thought: http://www.thesnyder5.com/2010/01/when-dinner-goes-wrong.html
Looking forward to meeting you at the FMSC event tonight!
My husband and I decided to make pumpkin cups awhile ago. Basically, crustless single-serve pumpkin pies. But he insisted to me that you don't need to mix in all the stuff that it says on the can, that you can just bake the pumpkin pie filling. UMMMM ... no, you can not. We each took one bite and dumped the rest in the trash.

ReplyDeleteI totally relate and it kills me to waste food. Otherwise, I enjoy experimenting. I made pumpkin cups too - but I used the excess pumpkin pie filling (homemade with roasted pumpkins & yummy spices) that I had taken out of the freezer & popped into the toaster oven. Plain pumpkin is not the tastiest treat is it? I have some in my fridge right now - planning a pumpkin puree soup or hide it in a baked good. ;)

HappyGal - I LOVED your post.
ReplyDeleteThat little one is adorable. Not sure you heard me, but I am in the market for a little one - preferably one that comes by way of a stork. ;)
And I was looking forward to meeting you at the blogger event on Tuesday night, but we did not have a chance to connect.

Love that you share your kitchen fails as well as your kitchen successes. They can't all be winners. :)
ReplyDeleteBut those cinnamon parsnips looked good to me... and I don't even like parsnips!
Sarah -
ReplyDeleteI have such a hard time believing you do not like parsnips ;) They taste like candy they are so sweet and delicious.
Any recent disasters?
